A company charges $13 plus $3 per hour to rent a boat. Abigail and Monique want to rent a boat but do not want to spend more than $20 each. What is the maximum number of hours the girls can rent a boat? *

Well, they will need to spend 13$ anyway- this seems to be the basic fee!

 So, if they want to spend no more than 20 dollars each, this means that they can spend 40 dollars in total! but 13 dollars will be taken for the basic fee - then we have left 40-13=27.

So they can spend 27 dollars on the hourly fee. This one is 3 dollars per hour - so they can spend 27/3=9, they can spend 9 hours on the boat!!!
