Who would have thought that I would be seeing all that I have seen because I was asked to help lead this expedition? This morning we started early, and it is a very cloudy and gloomy day. We meet up with the Native Americans today to trade supplies on many different islands. Then, we reached pillar rock and I can hear the ocean today. Once I was an army captain, a politician, and now I am an explorer. I am proudly taking an order by President Jefferson. I am taking 30 men along with myself included, and we are set off to explore unknown territory. I have devoted a great amount of time examining records written by other’s who have seen portions of the territory before. I have been instructed by President Jefferson to make a map with a new route to the Pacific Ocean, document and gather specimens, along with taking notes on activities, so, it can be studied later. I am supposed to gather as much information as possible concerning the geography and people I come across in this compelling journey. We may face extreme hardships in our future like starvation, exhaustion, sickness, harsh environments, and weather conditions. We are hoping to receive plenty of help from natives as traveling westward.
