In the second encounter with Mrs. Dubose, Jem tells Scout she shouldn’t listen to her. Then, Mrs. Dubose says something else which actually causes a reaction on Jem. Expand.
Jem gets angry at her and breaks the tops off her flowers with a stick he got for scout when Atticus finds out he makes him read to her everynight ontill she eventually passes away
