At the zoo, there were 3 times as many monkeys as lions. Tom counted a total of 24 monkeys and lions. How many monkeys were there

Answer :

m=monkeys
l=lions

3 timess as many monkeys as lions
m=3l

total is 24
m+l=24
sub 3l for m
3l+l=24
4l=24
divide both sides by 4
l=6
sub back

m=3l
m=3(6)
m=18

18 monkeys

If 6 x 4=24 than there are 6 lions and if there are 6 lions than 24 - 6=18 so there are 18 monkeys

18 monkeys
6 lions
