To minimize corrosion , the overhead wire or the rails should be connected to the positive terminal .

In case of corrosion , oxidation of the metal occurs due to loss of electrons to the air . this process  quicker in presence of moisture . to prevent oxidation , the metal should gain some electron .

Thus , the  overhead wire should be connected by positive terminal .
