The length of a rectangle is 12ft longer than twice the width . If the perimeter is 114 ft, find the length and width of the rectangle.

Answer :

Let, the width of the rexctangle be x ft.

Since the length is 12ft longer than twice the width, therefore, the length is

(2x+12)ft

Now, the perimeter is

2(2x+12+x) ft

Accordingly,

[tex]\begin{gathered} 2(2x+12+x)=114 \\ 3x+12=57 \\ 3x=45 \\ x=15 \end{gathered}[/tex]

Hence, the width of the rectangle is 15 ft.

The length is

[tex](2\times15+12)=42\text{ ft}[/tex]

Hence, the length is 42 ft.
